KARACHI: The Mohajir Qaumi Movement–Haqiqi (MQM-H) has expressed deep concern over the surge in street crime across Karachi and the apparent indifference of the provincial government and administration.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of traders at the residence of Afaq Ahmed, MQM-H Secretary General Shahid Faraz condemned what he described as the government’s failure to protect citizens and maintain law and order.
Shahid Faraz said that widespread corruption within the Sindh government had not only crippled the city’s infrastructure but also created an environment dominated by mafias and lawlessness. He argued that this unchecked criminal activity aimed to deprive local residents of their rights while enabling incompetent individuals to exert control.
Highlighting the alarming rise in street crimes, Faraz said that armed robbers were now targeting mobile phones, vehicles, cash, and even resorting to killing residents over minor resistance. He noted that incidents of bank robberies, attacks in markets, and crimes in residential areas were increasing daily, while government and administrative authorities remained inexplicably silent.
“Do the citizens of Karachi deserve to see their children orphaned? Are they living only to pay fines and taxes?” he questioned, emphasizing that the city’s residents were being left vulnerable. MQM-H’s clear demand, He said, is for an emergency response to control street crimes in Karachi.
Faraz called for swift and stringent punishments for perpetrators of murders and robberies, asserting that citizen safety must take constitutional precedence over revenue collection. He concluded by reaffirming MQM-P’s commitment to standing with Karachi’s residents, promising to continue fighting for their rights across every available platform.
