KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that MQM is the sole viable option for Karachi’s governance. Siddiqui made these remarks during a national planting campaign ceremony held in Karachi on Saturday.
The MQM-P convener took a jibe at Jamaat-e-Islami for its recent Rawalpindi sit-in, alleging that their visit aimed at reducing electricity prices had instead increased. He argued that only the descendants of those who founded Pakistan possess the capability to steer the nation towards prosperity. Khalid leader highlighted Karachi’s economic significance, noting that the city contributes 65 percent of the country’s budget. Despite this, Siddiqui lamented that Karachi continues to face neglect from the ruling authorities, which he claimed is undermining the city’s potential.
On the subject of the recent change in the Governor of Sindh, he expressed dissatisfaction, stating that MQM-P was not consulted regarding this decision. He asserted that such changes should not occur without MQM-P’s input, emphasizing the party’s integral role in provincial politics. Addressing environmental concerns, Siddiqui remarked that while Karachi’s walls have been repainted numerous times, genuine efforts to green the city have been lacking. He stressed the importance of focusing on actual environmental improvements rather than superficial measures.
