KARACHI: Members of the MQM Pakistan Central Committee have voiced serious concerns over the worsening conditions in Karachi, Hyderabad, and other Sindh cities following recent rains. The committee members criticized the performance of local representatives, asserting that a brief downpour has laid bare their ineffectiveness.
The MQM committee members contended that the so-called “rain emergency” claims quickly dissolved with just a few minutes of rain, leaving the city inundated with dirty water. They expressed frustration over the city administration’s inability to manage the situation effectively, transforming what could have been a manageable event into a significant crisis. The committee accused provincial ministers and the mayor of focusing more on displaying Karachi in a glamorous light rather than addressing the city’s pressing issues.
They argued that the current mayor’s penchant for showcasing Karachi as a world-class city, akin to London or Paris, contrasts sharply with the reality of the city’s deteriorating infrastructure and sanitation. Furthermore, MQM members criticized the administration for its apparent incompetence, which they believe has turned the city into a swamp of contaminated water. They highlighted the struggle faced by residents as they navigate through the flooded streets, which has become a daily ordeal for many.
In their statement, MQM members reminisced about the time when the party was in charge, expressing hope that the future will bring back honest and dedicated local representatives who can effectively serve the public and address their needs. The MQM’s criticism underscores a growing dissatisfaction with the current local administration’s handling of urban issues, particularly in the wake of natural calamities that exacerbate existing infrastructural deficiencies.
