HYDERABAD/KARACHI: Senior leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), Haider Abbas Rizvi, has sharply criticized the Sindh government for what he described as widespread mismanagement, corruption, and neglect in Karachi and Hyderabad.

Speaking at a press conference at the MQM district office, he said that Karachi no longer appears to be the provincial capital, accusing authorities of shifting public funds to Dubai instead of addressing local crises. Rizvi highlighted the aftermath of the Gul Plaza tragedy in Karachi, describing the scene as a “crime scene” where human remains were being indiscriminately dumped.

“People in Karachi have literally burned to death, yet no one seems to care. The government cannot even identify the remains properly. DNA samples are being sent elsewhere, while the government remains absent,” MQM-P leader said. He compared the situation in Hyderabad, Sindh’s second-largest city, noting that the devastation there mirrors Karachi’s.

Rizvi cited the delay in opening a medical college due to administrative negligence, describing the broader lack of basic civic services across the province. “Even after decades, districts and villages in Sindh remain deprived of fundamental facilities in the 21st century,” he added.

Rizvi said MQM had initiated the “Save Karachi” campaign prior to the Gul Plaza incident, highlighting civic issues in every assembly, and urged citizens to report local problems on social media to amplify accountability. He criticized the provincial administration for resisting strong, independent local governance and demanded transparency regarding the spending of over Rs25,000 billion received through the NFC awards in the last 15 years.
