NEW YORK: Social media platform X has suspended the newly launched Hebrew-language account associated with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, just a day after its activation. The account, @Khamenei_Heb, was suspended for “violating X’s rules” shortly after it posted a statement warning Israel about its military actions. The post stated, “Zionists are making a miscalculation with respect to Iran. They don’t know Iran. They still haven’t been able to correctly understand the power, initiative, and determination of the Iranian people. We need to make them understand these things.”
X’s community guidelines prohibit content from “violent and hateful entities,” yet the platform often makes exceptions for posts from “state or governmental entities.” Despite this, the suspension took place without immediate comment from either Khamenei’s office or representatives from X. This incident coincides with heightened tensions following recent Israeli airstrikes aimed at Iranian targets, which were a response to a ballistic missile incident earlier in October.
In Iran, access to platforms like X and Facebook has been heavily restricted, leading citizens to use virtual private networks (VPNs) to bypass these controls. Khamenei’s office has maintained several accounts on X, posting messages in various languages over the years.
