KARACHI: In a significant development that reflects the continued cooperation between political and religious factions in Karachi, Maulana Sadiq Jafari, the Provincial President of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Sindh, led a high-profile delegation to the central election office of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), located at Pakistan House. The delegation included Allama Mubashir Hassan, a Provincial Member of MWM, and Rizvi Haider, the President of the Karachi Azadari Wing.
The purpose of their visit was to extend an invitation to MQM-P’s senior leader, Dr. Farooq Sattar, to attend an important religious event — the central Chehlum of Martyr Syed Hassan Nasrallah. The Chehlum, an annual commemoration for the martyrdom of Syed Hassan Nasrallah, is a highly significant religious observance, especially for the Shia Muslim community, and is set to take place on November 9 at Nishtar Park in Karachi. The delegation emphasized the importance of Dr. Sattar’s attendance at the event, viewing it as an opportunity to demonstrate solidarity not only with the religious community but also with the collective efforts to foster unity and peace within the city.
During their meeting, Dr. Farooq Sattar, in response to the formal invitation extended by Maulana Sadiq Jafari, expressed his gratitude for the gesture and warmly accepted the invitation. Sattar acknowledged the importance of such commemorative events and emphasized the need for political and religious leaders to come together in these moments of solemnity, especially in a diverse city like Karachi, which faces numerous social and political challenges.
The cordiality of the meeting was further highlighted by the mutual respect shown between the two parties. Dr. Sattar’s decision to confirm his participation in the event signifies not just the acceptance of the invitation but also a broader gesture of fostering unity between the political and religious sectors. This also symbolizes a shared commitment to Karachi’s well-being, a city with a complex and diverse demographic, where the collaborative efforts of political parties and religious groups are essential to maintaining peace and harmony.
