SUKKUR: The death of a young boy, Aijaz Shaikh, from the Wagan area of Larkana, while in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Sukkur, has sparked controversy and allegations of foul play. Shaikh was found dead in a lockup, leading to suspicions of murder and demands for a thorough investigation.
The case has drawn significant attention following allegations from Ghulam Hussain Shaikh, the father of the deceased. According to Shaikh, his son was arrested by local police and FIA officers on charges related to a case involving sexual harassment and the circulation of objectionable images under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (PECA). He claims that during the arrest, an FIA inspector demanded a bribe of Rs. 300,000. When Shaikh refused to comply, his son allegedly died under suspicious circumstances while in FIA custody.
The body of Aijaz Shaikh was transported to Sukkur Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which was conducted under the supervision of a Judicial Magistrate. The family and their supporters have expressed doubts about the official explanation of suicide. They argue that the ceiling of the washroom in the lockup, where the alleged suicide took place, is 12 feet high, making it implausible for someone to hang themselves without a means to climb up.
The FIA spokesman has stated that Aijaz Shaikh was indeed arrested and remanded in connection with the charges mentioned. According to the spokesperson, the young man ended his life by hanging himself in the washroom of the lockup. The situation remains under investigation, with calls for accountability and transparency in the handling of this case.
