ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has vowed to hold those responsible for a late-night raid on Parliament House accountable. During Tuesday’s session, Sadiq condemned the raid, stating that “no one will remain silent” about the incident and promising decisive action. “We will address last night’s incident seriously,” Sadiq said, announcing that he has requested all available video footage to identify those involved. He also mentioned the possibility of filing an FIR if necessary.
Sadiq, recalling previous attacks on Parliament, stressed the importance of a firm response. “I was the Speaker during the first attack on Parliament, and we must stand firm this time,” he remarked. He has called for an urgent meeting with political leaders from all parties to discuss the next steps. PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan has strongly condemned the raid, describing it as an attack on democracy. Speaking during the National Assembly session, Khan questioned whether the raid on Parliament constitutes an attack on Pakistan itself.
“Democracy has faced arrests before, but what happened last night, with masked men entering Parliament and arresting members, is unacceptable,” Khan stated. Members of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), both allies of the government, also voiced their dissatisfaction, adding to the tension over the incident. The raid, which took place in the early hours, has prompted calls for a thorough investigation. The masked individuals’ actions and the circumstances of the arrests of PTI leaders are under scrutiny.
