Sardar Ayaz Sadiq acknowledged the Parliament of Pakistan’s pivotal role in advancing gender equality, reproductive health, and sustainable development

ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has highlighted the critical importance of integrating gender empowerment with sustainable development strategies. Speaking at the Regional Meeting on Gender Empowerment and Green Economy, held in the context of ICPD30 and organized by Romina Khursheed Alam, the Honorable Coordinator to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Climate Change, Sadiq emphasized that “exchanging ideas, best practices, and forging collaborative strategies are essential for achieving gender empowerment and sustainable development.”
Sadiq underscored the interconnectedness of gender equality and environmental sustainability, asserting that “the success of one depends on the other.” He reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stating, “Pakistan is resolute in its commitment to achieve SDGs.”
In his address, Sadiq acknowledged the Parliament of Pakistan’s pivotal role in advancing gender equality, reproductive health, and sustainable development. He noted the Parliament’s efforts through progressive legislation and dedicated forums, such as the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus and the Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs, which have made the sustainable development agenda a national priority.
Reflecting on his previous tenure as Speaker of the National Assembly, Sadiq highlighted significant achievements, including the organization of the National Parliamentary Meeting on Malnutrition of Mother & Child. This initiative fostered essential dialogue on the issue and led to the advancement of laws addressing gender-based violence, ensuring safe workplaces, and enhancing women’s socio-economic and political participation.
Sadiq also proudly noted that the Parliament of Pakistan is the first in the world to fully transition to solar energy, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to environmental sustainability. He reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to combating climate change through various measures, including promoting renewable energy, protecting forests, and enhancing climate resilience. The Speaker concluded his address by affirming Pakistan’s active investment in sustainable energy solutions, implementing policies to preserve vital forests, and developing strategies to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
