KARACHI: Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, called on the government to adopt a clear and firm stance in support of Iran, saying the Pakistani nation stood with Tehran.
He addressed the “Jeenay Do Karachi” public gathering and iftar dinner organised by Jamaat-e-Islami District Gulberg Central at Student Ground in Liaquatabad. Naeemur Rehman described the reported attack on Iran by Donald Trump and Israel as “open terrorism” and urged Islamabad to act immediately to prevent further escalation, suggesting diplomatic engagement with China and Russia.
Referring to Afghanistan, he said Pakistan welcomed the Afghan government when it assumed power and expressed goodwill for the Afghan people. However, he urged Kabul to remove “black sheep” from its ranks and stressed the need for meaningful dialogue between Islamabad and Kabul, cautioning that internal divisions should not benefit the United States, Israel, or India.
He also demanded the release of political prisoners and called for dialogue among political parties in the national interest. Warning against sending Pakistani troops to Palestine against Hamas, he said such action would not be accepted.
Criticising US President Donald Trump, he alleged Washington was backing Israel and its prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in actions against Iran.
On local issues, Naeemur Rehman highlighted development initiatives in Liaquatabad, including rehabilitation of Student Ground, road works, school improvements, and free IT courses under party-backed welfare programmes. He also criticised the Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government for failing to address Karachi’s civic problems or devolve powers.
JI Karachi ameer Monem Zafar and other local leaders also addressed the gathering, condemning the reported attack on Iran and calling for unity in the Muslim world.
