Following a high-level security meeting, Naqvi emphasized the federal government’s commitment to supporting Balochistan’s efforts to combat terrorism

PESHAWAR: The recent surge in terrorist activities in Balochistan, particularly the devastating blast near Quetta Railway Station on Saturday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced an expansion of intelligence-based operations (IBOs) throughout the province. The bombing, which claimed 27 lives and injured over 50 people, has raised alarm over the growing security threat in the region.

Following a high-level security meeting, Naqvi emphasized the federal government’s commitment to supporting Balochistan’s efforts to combat terrorism. He assured that all available resources would be provided to strengthen the province’s security infrastructure. “The federal government will provide all possible support to the Balochistan government to counter the threat of terrorism,” Naqvi declared, underscoring that enhancing the province’s security forces was now a priority.

The Interior Minister outlined several measures, including targeted training programs and professional development initiatives aimed at upgrading the capabilities of Balochistan’s Police, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Levies, and other security agencies. Naqvi also paid tribute to the victims of the Quetta blast, offering condolences to their families and emphasizing the collective responsibility in the fight against terrorism. “Victory against our enemies is our only option,” he affirmed, sending a clear message that the battle against terrorism is a national one.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti echoed Naqvi’s sentiments, vowing that the provincial government would take decisive action to address the security challenges. Bugti highlighted that the attacks were being orchestrated by a small but dangerous group of militants, and he reassured the public that the government was committed to eliminating them. “We are determined to completely eliminate these elements,” Bugti stated, reinforcing the provincial administration’s resolve in the fight against extremism.

Senior provincial officials, including Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Home Shahab Ali Shah, IG Police Moazzam Jah Ansari, and Quetta Division Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat, also participated in the meeting, where they discussed strategies to improve security measures and counter the recent wave of attacks. The officials outlined plans for strengthening intelligence-sharing, increasing patrols, and enhancing coordination between local law enforcement and federal agencies.

As Balochistan continues to face threats from insurgents and terrorist groups, the federal and provincial governments are working together to ensure the protection of the people and restore peace to the region. The expanded IBOs and the ongoing security initiatives signal a united effort to confront the growing terrorism threat head-on.
