LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Member of National Assembly (MNA) Nawaz Sharif is set to travel to London next month, as reported by party sources. The trip is scheduled to commence on September 11, shortly after the death anniversary of his late wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
According to party insiders, Sharif’s visit is primarily for medical reasons. He is expected to undergo a comprehensive medical examination with his doctors in London. Following the check-up, Sharif plans to spend time with his sons, who are based in the UK. The trip is anticipated to last between two and three weeks, although political developments in Pakistan may influence the timing of his departure.
Sharif’s potential departure comes at a significant moment in Pakistan’s political landscape. He had returned to Pakistan on October 21 last year after a lengthy stay abroad, marking the end of his four-year self-imposed exile in London. His return was strategically timed to mobilize support ahead of the parliamentary elections held in February. Previously, Sharif had been considered a fugitive after his failure to appear in court in 2019, leading to a 10-year prison sentence on corruption charges.
