DADU: Police in Jamshoro have announced a major breakthrough in the armed robbery at the residence of former Medical Superintendent Dr Chela Ram, revealing that the crime was orchestrated by a close neighbour. Dewan Mukesh Kumar was arrested following the recovery of stolen cash, gold, and silver, marking a significant development in the investigation.
The robbery, which occurred four days ago in Bhittai Mohalla, Thana Bula Khan, reportedly involved a gang of armed men who stole over Rs5 million in cash, 22 tolas of gold jewellery, and a large quantity of silver and other valuables. Police confirmed that Rs2.2 million in cash, 18 tolas of gold, and 400 tolas of silver have so far been recovered. Two facilitators have also been detained, and raids continue to locate three additional suspects reportedly linked to the Bugti tribe from Balochistan.
During an emergency press briefing at the scene, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Sardar Malik Sikandar said the suspects had been identified and apprehended within 24 hours of the incident. He described the attack on Dr Chela Ram as a premeditated attempt to target the former official.
Sikandar also noted that individuals with ties to Balochistan and Kohistan were allegedly involved, and praised the swift police response that ensured public safety and maintained law and order. He criticised political opponents for attempting to politicise the incident, stating that the government’s actions had prevented unrest in the Kohistan region.
Authorities indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with further arrests anticipated as the police continue to track down remaining members of the gang.
