KARACHI: Dr. Saleem Haider, the Chairman of the Mohajir Ittehad Movement, has asserted that the establishment of new provinces will serve as a guarantee for strengthening the federal structure of Pakistan. Speaking at a recent event, he lamented that amendments to the constitution have undermined the foundations of the nation, creating a sense of deprivation among various ethnic groups by forming provinces based on linguistic lines.
Dr. Saleem Haider pointed out that the majority population of Sindh, comprised of migrants, has been overlooked, leaving power and authority in the hands of non-migrant Sindhis. He expressed optimism regarding the recent discussions at higher levels about the creation of new provinces, deeming it a positive step for the country and its security. He recalled that the call for the division of Sindh was first raised by his movement, which resulted in sedition charges being filed against them.
“We were jailed for advocating for the division of Sindh, and yet, we continue to speak for it, believing it is the only solution to stabilize and strengthen the province,” he stated. Furthermore, he emphasized that the Mohajir Ittehad Movement stands as a significant barrier against separatist elements and anti-national forces in Sindh. “From day one, we have challenged these separatist elements, while those claiming to represent the interests of migrants have aligned themselves with the founders of the separatist Sindhudesh movement.
