KARACHI: As part of its mission to provide comprehensive healthcare to the public, the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) has announced plans to formally launch a full-fledged dialysis and lithotripsy center in a recently acquired building on Shahra-e-Faisal, Karachi.

In 2024, SIUT acquired a multi-storey hotel building in one of the city’s most central locations to address the pressing issue of space. Its existing facilities were struggling to cope with the ever-increasing flow of patients, making the acquisition of a larger, strategically located property a critical step for the institute.

Soon after taking possession, the building was converted into SIUT Trust Hospital, positioned on one of Karachi’s main arteries. The hospital occupies 13,200 square yards, with a total constructed area of 47,034 square yards. Its central location places it alongside some of the city’s most prominent hospitals, enhancing collaboration and accessibility for patients.

Currently, SIUT Trust Hospital operates with 60 beds and provides daily dialysis sessions. Officials said they plan to expand the facility to accommodate up to 200 sessions per day, ensuring timely and high-quality care for patients.

SIUT’s journey began in 1971 with just eight beds at the Civil Hospital in Karachi. Through dedication, professional commitment, and a strong ethos of public service, the institute has grown remarkably over the decades, achieving milestones in urology, nephrology, hepatogastroenterology, paediatrics—including paediatric urology and nephrology—cardiology, and most notably, transplantation, which remains its flagship service.

The hallmark of SIUT has always been its commitment to providing free medical care to all, without discrimination, reflecting the institute’s enduring principles of service, dignity, and equity.
