KARACHI: Scott Urbom has officially assumed the position of Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Karachi, reinforcing the enduring diplomatic relationship between the United States and Pakistan. Bringing extensive experience to this role, Urbom previously served as Office Director in the Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, where he oversaw bilateral relations between the United States and multiple countries in the region.
His career has included significant assignments such as Deputy Director of the Office of Korean Affairs, Deputy Political Chief at the American Institute in Taiwan, and DPRK Unit Chief in the Office of Korean Affairs. His global experience is further highlighted by his postings in Beijing, China; Bridgetown, Barbados; and Kyiv. Before joining the Foreign Service, Urbom made meaningful contributions to global education as an English teacher with the Peace Corps in Kazakhstan.
Scott Urbom is an alumnus of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and holds master’s degrees from Harvard University and the National War College. Urbom is accompanied by his wife, Sonia, a retired U.S. diplomat and educator, and their two daughters, who are currently in college. Urbom begins his tenure as Consul General by commemorating the 77th anniversary of U.S.-Pakistan diplomatic relations.
