ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday described Pakistan’s relationship with China as “tested in every season and steel-strong,” sending warm greetings to the Chinese people and leadership on the occasion of the Chinese New Year.
Speaking in a statement, President Zardari said the Year of the Horse symbolized energy, resilience, and development, expressing hope that it would usher in a new phase of growth in trade, innovation, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the One-China policy and praised China’s consistent backing of Pakistan, particularly on the Kashmir issue, describing it as “invaluable.” He recalled the historic meeting between Pakistan’s founder, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and Chinese Chairman Mao Zedong, framing it as a symbol of enduring friendship and mutual respect between the nations.
The president also lauded China’s leadership under Xi Jinping, noting the country’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and global development. He highlighted the importance of China’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in maintaining regional stability, and described Pak-China cooperation in defence and security as a “guarantee of peace” in South Asia.
“Pakistan and China stand shoulder to shoulder in every challenging hour,” Zardari said, framing the relationship as both historic and forward-looking, with economic, strategic, and cultural ties continuing to deepen in the coming years.
