RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held a high-level meeting with Dr Ali Ardeshir Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussions centered on bilateral cooperation, defence partnerships, and regional security challenges, reflecting the strategic importance of Pakistan-Iran ties. During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the need to strengthen relations between the neighboring countries, highlighting avenues for collaboration across multiple sectors.

They reviewed the current security environment in the region, stressing the importance of joint initiatives aimed at promoting stability and mitigating threats. Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and development, underlining the significance of coordinated strategies against terrorism and transnational security challenges.

The Army Chief also noted the evolving geopolitical dynamics in the region, pointing to the increasing relevance of strategic cooperation between Islamabad and Tehran. Dr Larijani, in turn, acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in fostering regional security and expressed Iran’s intention to further deepen bilateral engagement.

Both sides reportedly agreed on the importance of dialogue and sustained cooperation to address emerging challenges and maintain peace along shared borders. Officials described the meeting as both cordial and substantive, reflecting a shared understanding of the interconnected nature of regional stability.

Analysts said the discussions underscored a mutual desire to ensure that Pakistan-Iran relations remain resilient, pragmatic, and strategically aligned amid shifting regional realities. The talks concluded with a reaffirmation of the two countries’ commitment to maintaining security, promoting collaboration, and exploring new opportunities for partnership in defence, economic, and security spheres.
