ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is on the verge of finalizing a $2 billion investment agreement with Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced during a meeting with Khalaf Khalafov, the special envoy of the Azerbaijani president, in Islamabad.
Sharif conveyed warm regards to President Ilham Aliyev and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening brotherly ties with Baku, extending an official invitation for President Aliyev to undertake a state visit at the earliest convenience. The discussions, officials said, covered a broad spectrum of regional developments and explored avenues for closer political and economic cooperation.
Sharif emphasized the importance of strengthening engagement between the two countries, highlighting that enhanced coordination could promote regional stability and create mutually beneficial economic opportunities. The prime minister described the prospective investment as a milestone in bilateral economic relations, reflecting growing confidence in Pakistan’s economy.
Khalafov, in turn, praised Sharif’s leadership, noting that his government had delivered significant progress not only in economic stabilization but also in security and diplomacy. He expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s steadfast support during the Second Karabakh conflict and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s longstanding position on the Jammu and Kashmir issue.
During the meeting, Khalafov also handed over a letter from President Aliyev to the prime minister, acknowledging Islamabad’s support in initiatives such as the recent establishment of the Asaan Khidmat Markaz in Islamabad. Officials described the engagement as a significant step forward in cementing strategic and economic relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
