KARACHI: The Pakistan Coast Guards organized a ceremony near the shrine of Hasan Shah to destroy confiscated smuggled goods. Military and civil officials, along with distinguished guests from various walks of life, attended the event.
The purpose of the ceremony was to prevent smuggling and narcotics trafficking and to raise awareness within society. The Pakistan Coast Guards is recognized as an important and commendable force of the country, consistently demonstrating outstanding performance against anti-state elements, particularly those involved in smuggling, narcotics, and human trafficking.
The smuggled items set ablaze included 9,720 kilograms of betel nut (chhalia), 31,313 kilograms of Indian gutka packets, 450 kilograms of naswar, 10,250 kilograms of China salt, 6,655 sticks of foreign cigarettes, 5,259 kilograms of kattha and gutka ingredients, 90 kilograms of poppy seeds, and prohibited medicines. The total estimated value of the destroyed goods in the international market is approximately Rs123 million.
It is worth noting that the Pakistan Coast Guards organizes such ceremonies at different times each year to highlight awareness against this menace and to reaffirm its commitment to actively preventing narcotics and smuggling activities, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the national economy.
