ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly rejected recent comments by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the situation in Indian-administered Kashmir, describing them as baseless, misleading, and an attempt to deflect global attention from India’s ongoing human rights violations in the region.
In a sharp statement issued by the Foreign Office, the spokesperson criticized Modi’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir as being detached from reality and politically driven. “These statements are contrary to facts on the ground,” the spokesperson said, suggesting that India was once again trying to rewrite the narrative to avoid accountability for its actions in the disputed territory.
The Pakistani government also denounced India’s effort to link Pakistan to the recent attack in Pahalgam, calling it an unfounded accusation. “No credible evidence has ever been presented to substantiate these claims,” the spokesperson noted, adding that such statements do little more than heighten tensions in an already volatile region.
Reaffirming its position, Pakistan said Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory whose final status must be determined in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions. The Foreign Office highlighted that India’s continued military presence, sweeping restrictions on civil liberties, and demographic changes through administrative and legal measures contradict its own claims of normalcy.
“India’s actions are in clear violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention,” the statement said, reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
