ISLAMABAD: In a significant escalation of its humanitarian efforts, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has dispatched the 15th and 16th consignments of relief supplies aimed at aiding those affected by the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. Each of these shipments, weighing 100 tons, is packed with essential winter supplies, including tents and blankets, and was sent from Islamabad to Amman for Gaza and to Beirut for Lebanon. This initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment to providing support during times of crisis.
The send-off ceremony, held at Islamabad International Airport, was attended by a host of dignitaries, including members of Pakistan’s Parliament, NDMA officials, representatives from the Foreign Office, and personnel from the Armed Forces. The event underscored the collaborative nature of the relief effort, highlighting Pakistan’s unified approach to humanitarian assistance.
Both the Palestinian and Lebanese Ambassadors to Pakistan, Zuhair MH Darzaid and Ghassan Khatib, were present at the ceremony and expressed profound gratitude for Pakistan’s ongoing support. Ambassador Darzaid remarked, “The generosity and compassion demonstrated by Pakistan serve as a beacon of hope and a testament to our shared commitment to peace and justice.” Meanwhile, Ambassador Khatib emphasized that the humanitarian assistance provided by Pakistan has been vital in delivering critical relief to those suffering amidst the conflicts.
To date, Pakistan has sent a total of 1,598 tons of relief items to Gaza and Lebanon, with earlier shipments originating from Karachi that included food, hygiene kits, and clothing. This substantial contribution showcases Pakistan’s proactive stance in addressing humanitarian needs in conflict zones. In a further demonstration of solidarity, the government has launched the ‘Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Gaza and Lebanon’ to facilitate public donations, ensuring that support for “our Palestinian and Lebanese brothers and sisters” continues unabated.
Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaisar Ahmed Sheikh reiterated the government’s commitment, stating that Pakistan “remains dedicated to supporting those in need.” This coordinated response not only highlights the urgency of the humanitarian crisis but also reflects the deep-rooted connections and shared values between Pakistan and the affected communities in the region.
