KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met the federal minister for commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, who called on him in Karachi with a high-level delegation.
Discussions focused on key sectors, including agriculture, livestock, Marble City, and insurance. Speaking on agriculture, Jam Kamal Khan said crop insurance had not previously existed in Pakistan, but the federal government was now taking steps to introduce it. The chief minister stressed that crop financing and insurance were essential, noting that farmers could not achieve better yields without access to financing.
Jam Kamal added that the Sindh government was actively promoting the agricultural industry across the province. On livestock, Qasim Naveed said the Sindh government was working to declare the cattle colonies in Landhi and Gadap as disease-free zones. The meeting agreed to accelerate measures to keep livestock free from disease.
The delegation included TDAP chief executive Faiz Ahmed, State Life Insurance CEO Shoaib Javed, NICL CEO Farman Zarqoon, and TDAP secretary Shehryar Taj. Sindh’s transport minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo, special assistant Qasim Naveed, principal secretary Agha Wasif, and finance secretary Fayaz Jatoi were also present.
Shah said work was under way to make cattle colonies disease-free and vowed to eradicate foot-and-mouth disease completely. Participants also expressed deep sorrow over the Gul Plaza tragedy in Karachi. The chief minister said large projects such as Gul Plaza should be insured, noting that insurance would ensure regular building inspections.
