DHAKA: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday. The meeting took place at the State Guest House in Dhaka.
Both sides discussed ways to expand cooperation in trade, investment and aviation. They also explored options to scale up cultural, educational and medical exchanges to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two South Asian countries. He said bilateral trade had recorded a 20% increase compared with last year. He noted that business communities in both countries were actively exploring new investment opportunities.
The Pakistani high commissioner also highlighted a noticeable rise in cultural exchanges. Bangladeshi students, he said, have shown strong interest in higher education opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in medical sciences, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence. He further said Pakistan has seen an increase in patients travelling to its leading hospitals for liver and kidney transplants.
Professor Muhammad Yunus welcomed the growing interaction between the two countries. He stressed the importance of increased visits, along with stronger cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges among SAARC member states. He also underlined the need to further boost Bangladesh–Pakistan trade.
The Special Advisor expressed hope that during Haider’s tenure, both countries would explore new avenues for investment and joint-venture businesses. The Pakistan high commissioner said direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi are expected to begin in January. SDG Coordinator and Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed was also present at the meeting.
