ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has formally accepted an invitation to join the Board of Peace, signaling its commitment to contributing to lasting stability in Gaza. The decision, announced by the Foreign Office, is part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to support the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan under the framework of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.
The invitation was extended to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by US President Donald J. Trump, reflecting international recognition of Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian people. In accepting the role, Pakistan expressed hope that the Board of Peace would help facilitate a permanent ceasefire, expand humanitarian assistance, and support the reconstruction of Gaza following years of conflict.
Officials emphasized that Pakistan views the initiative as an opportunity to advance a credible, time-bound political process aimed at realizing the Palestinian right to self-determination. This process, they said, should be consistent with international legitimacy and relevant UN resolutions, ultimately leading to the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
The Foreign Office added that Pakistan intends to play a constructive role within the Board of Peace, contributing to efforts that aim to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians while promoting durable political solutions. Analysts noted that the country’s participation in such a high-level multilateral initiative highlights its diplomatic engagement in Middle Eastern affairs and underscores its longstanding advocacy for Palestinian rights on the global stage.
