ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Jordan agreed to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors during a meeting of the Pakistan-Jordan Inter-ministerial Commission held in Islamabad on Thursday, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening ties long described by officials as “brotherly.”
The discussions focused on expanding trade, investment, and broader economic collaboration, signaling both countries’ intent to translate cordial diplomatic relations into a robust, results-oriented partnership. He expressed optimism that this year could mark a breakthrough in bilateral trade and economic ties.
Speaking at the event, Jordanian Minister for Industry and Trade Yarub Qudah announced the formation of a dedicated working group tasked with identifying opportunities across key sectors, ranging from industry, banking, and finance to education and energy, with the goal of turning strategic plans into concrete initiatives.
Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, highlighted the historical bonds between Islamabad and Amman, emphasizing that the relationship was built not only on diplomacy but also on shared economic interests. He outlined the broad areas for potential cooperation, including trade and investment, industrial development, agriculture, higher education, vocational training, maritime affairs, energy, and mineral resources.
The inter-ministerial commission marked a step toward institutionalizing bilateral dialogue, with both sides committing to regular consultations and follow-ups. By establishing sector-specific working groups, officials said they hoped to convert strategic intentions into actionable projects, ultimately strengthening the economic foundation of the Pakistan–Jordan partnership and fostering long-term regional cooperation.
