ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office spokesperson, Tahir Hussain Andrabi, rejected on Saturday the statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding Pakistan’s Shia community.
According to Andrabi, the Indian statement represents a malicious attempt to divert attention from facts. He said that expressions of concern about Pakistan’s Shia community deviate from reality and cannot conceal India’s own record.
He highlighted that in India, discrimination and violence against Muslims, Christians, and other minorities is routine, ranging from restrictions on worship to mob-led acts of so-called justice, with documented attacks on homes and livelihoods.
Andrabi described the rising incidents of Muslims being killed by mobs in India as extremely reprehensible, reflecting an environment of uncontrollable brutality. He urged India to ensure protection for Muslims, Christians, and other communities.
The statement added that in 2025, over 55 Muslims were allegedly killed by mobs, and since January 2026, more than 19 Muslims have lost their lives in violent attacks. Extremist groups have also illegally attempted to demolish 11 mosques. Pakistan urged India to refrain from making unfounded statements driven by political motives.
