Tensions flared along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier after Afghan Taliban fighters opened fire in Khyber district. Pakistani forces responded immediately, bringing the situation under control.

    ISLAMABAD
: Pakistani security forces successfully repelled cross-border gunfire from Afghan Taliban fighters in the Torkham and Tirah areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said on Tuesday. The prime minister’s spokesperson for foreign media, Mosharraf Zaidi, confirmed on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that the firing had originated from the Afghan side.

According to Zaidi, Pakistani forces responded “immediately and effectively,” silencing the Taliban aggression. No casualties were reported, but officials warned that any further provocation would be met with a swift and severe response. The spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to protecting its citizens and defending its territorial integrity.

The latest incident comes days after intelligence-based Pakistani airstrikes targeted seven terrorist camps inside Afghanistan’s Nangarhar, Paktika, and Khost provinces, killing more than 80 militants. These strikes were carried out in response to a recent surge in suicide attacks within Pakistan and specifically targeted hideouts linked to Fitna al-Khawarij, the term used by authorities for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

For local residents, the clash was a stark reminder of the ongoing volatility in the border region, where militant activity and diplomatic tensions frequently spill over into armed confrontations. Analysts say that such exchanges underscore the fragile security environment along the mountainous frontier and the need for continued vigilance.
