The Turkish military chief received a ceremonial guard of honor from Pakistan’s disciplined forces, underscoring the enduring warmth and strategic depth of Islamabad-Ankara defence ties

RAWALPINDI: The chief of the Turkish general staff, General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, paid an official visit to Pakistan’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where he called on the chief of defence forces and chief of army staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, in a meeting that underscored the depth of the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries.

On his arrival at GHQ, the Turkish military chief was accorded a guard of honor by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan armed forces, a ceremonial gesture reflecting the close and cordial defence ties between Islamabad and Ankara. The visit took place against the backdrop of evolving regional and global security dynamics, lending added significance to the discussions held during the engagement.

According to officials, the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, with particular attention given to the prevailing regional and international security environment. Both sides exchanged views on emerging challenges and explored prospects for further strengthening bilateral defence and military cooperation.

The discussions also covered ongoing collaboration and future avenues for enhancing institutional linkages between the two armed forces. The two senior military leaders expressed satisfaction with the current trajectory of Pakistan-Türkiye relations, describing them as robust and steadily expanding.

They underscored the importance of maintaining close coordination at multiple levels and emphasized the need to further deepen defence collaboration in response to shared security concerns. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir highlighted the enduring brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye, noting that it was rooted in shared history, mutual trust and strong people-to-people ties.

Field Marshal appreciated the consistent support and cooperation extended by the Turkish armed forces and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening military-to-military relations, describing defence cooperation as a central pillar of the broader bilateral partnership.

In his remarks, General Bayraktaroglu thanked the Pakistani side for the warm reception and praised the professionalism and discipline of the Pakistan armed forces. He reiterated Türkiye’s resolve to deepen defence cooperation, including through expanded training programs, joint military exercises and capacity-building initiatives, aimed at enhancing interoperability and mutual readiness.

Officials said the visit reflected the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye, as well as their shared commitment to promoting regional peace, stability and security through close defence cooperation and sustained dialogue.
