A one-day Islamabad meeting underscored historic ties and future cooperation ambitions, marking a pivotal moment in strengthening bilateral relations

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif hosted United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, marking the first such visit of the UAE leader to Pakistan since assuming the presidency.
The one-day meeting, held in Islamabad, was framed as a pivotal step in reinforcing the long-standing bonds between the two nations, highlighting both historical ties and ambitions for future cooperation. According to an official statement issued by the government, the discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations and expanding collaboration across a range of sectors, including trade, investment, and strategic initiatives.
The leaders reviewed progress on ongoing projects and initiatives that have, over the years, strengthened the partnership between Pakistan and the UAE. They also exchanged perspectives on regional and global developments, underlining the shared commitment to addressing challenges in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. The statement emphasized that both leaders reaffirmed their intention to maintain close contact on issues of mutual interest.
They expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and reiterated a shared resolve to advance peace, stability, and sustainable development. This commitment comes amid a broader regional context in which Pakistan has sought to consolidate strategic partnerships and economic collaboration with Gulf countries, with the UAE long regarded as one of its closest allies.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed was accorded a warm reception upon arrival at Nur Khan Airbase, where he was greeted by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and senior military officials, including Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and the Chief of Defence Forces. Senior cabinet members and officials were also present, reflecting the ceremonial and diplomatic importance of the visit.
A particularly striking moment came in the form of a ceremonial aerial salute by JF-17 fighter jets, symbolizing the depth of the strategic partnership and mutual respect between the two countries. After engaging in extensive talks, the UAE president concluded his official visit and departed Pakistan, leaving behind a reinforced sense of bilateral cooperation and a shared vision for sustained engagement.
