ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry held a high-level meeting with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, John Mark Pomeroy, in Islamabad, focusing on bilateral relations and regional security challenges.
The discussions, officials said, revolved around strengthening cooperation in counterterrorism and internal security, while also exploring avenues for economic partnership. During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of coordinated global action in addressing terrorism.
Naqvi underlined that Pakistan values its strategic relationship with the United States, describing it as “key” to combating security threats that transcend borders. He noted that counterterrorism efforts are most effective when supported through international collaboration, intelligence-sharing, and joint initiatives.
Beyond security, the talks explored opportunities for enhancing investment and partnership in Pakistan’s mining, minerals, and energy sectors. Naqvi welcomed U.S. involvement, highlighting that foreign investment in these areas would not only strengthen economic growth but also contribute to regional stability.
“Pakistan believes in building global partnerships that simultaneously eliminate threats from terrorism and promote sustainable development,” he said, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior. Officials from both sides agreed that deepening ties across security and economic fronts would serve mutual interests, reinforcing Pakistan’s role as a responsible regional actor and opening pathways for foreign investment while addressing critical security concerns.
