PM Shehbaz praised Vietnam’s influence within ASEAN and expressed a desire for its support in advancing Pakistan’s aspiration for full dialogue partner status within the organization

By our correspondent

RIYADH: In a notable display of diplomatic engagement, Pakistan and Vietnam have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering tourism, trade, and investment relations during a high-level meeting held in Riyadh on Wednesday. This significant dialogue took place against the backdrop of the Eighth Future Investment Initiative Conference, bringing together Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Minh Chinh. Both leaders underscored the mutual advantages of deepening bilateral relations, recognizing the untapped potential that lies within their economic partnership.

Following their discussions, the Prime Minister’s Office released a statement highlighting PM Shehbaz’s eagerness to enhance cooperation with Vietnam. He proposed the formation of delegations from both countries tasked with exploring business opportunities and strengthening economic ties. This proactive stance illustrates Pakistan’s recognition of Vietnam as a vital partner in the region, particularly given Vietnam’s dynamic role within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

PM Shehbaz praised Vietnam’s influence within ASEAN and expressed a desire for its support in advancing Pakistan’s aspiration for full dialogue partner status within the organization. This request not only signifies Pakistan’s intention to broaden its diplomatic reach but also illustrates a strategic move to deepen its connections in Southeast Asia. In a gesture that emphasizes the importance of personal diplomacy, PM Shehbaz extended an invitation for PM Pham to visit Pakistan, signaling a commitment to nurturing relations that have become increasingly significant in the context of broader regional partnerships.

This meeting comes on the heels of Pakistan’s recent diplomatic strides, particularly with Saudi Arabia, where bilateral partnerships have been strengthened, increasing collaboration to an impressive $2.8 billion. Such developments point to a regional trend of enhancing economic alliances, suggesting that both Pakistan and Vietnam stand to gain substantially from increased cooperation in tourism, trade, and investment.

As the world grapples with shifting economic landscapes, the proactive diplomatic initiatives taken by Pakistan and Vietnam underscore a shared vision for future prosperity. By capitalizing on their respective strengths and exploring new avenues for collaboration, both nations appear poised to harness the benefits of their partnership, reinforcing their positions in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
