DUBAI: A Pakistani national was killed in Iranian missile strikes on the United Arab Emirates, diplomatic officials confirmed on Saturday, as tensions across the Middle East spiraled into open confrontation.
Officials said the man died in Abu Dhabi after being struck by missile fragments during the barrage launched by Tehran. His identity had not been disclosed at the time of reporting. Diplomatic sources said they were in contact with the Emirati authorities to ascertain further details surrounding the incident.
The fatality came hours after Israel and the United States launched strikes on Iran, marking a dramatic escalation in hostilities. The US president, Donald Trump, said the action was aimed at destroying Tehran’s missile arsenal and preventing it from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Tehran responded with what it described as a sweeping barrage of missiles targeting Israel and several Gulf states, plunging the region into renewed instability and raising fears of a wider conflict. The exchanges signaled one of the most serious flare-ups in recent years, with civilian populations caught in the crossfire.
Separately, Pakistan’s embassy in the UAE urged its nationals to remain calm in light of the unfolding situation. In a statement posted on X, the mission advised citizens to rely only on official and verified information issued by the UAE government and to refrain from sharing unconfirmed reports circulating on social media.
The embassy further urged Pakistani residents to exercise caution, remain vigilant and minimize non-essential travel. Those with planned journeys were advised to check flight schedules with their respective airlines before heading to the airport. The mission also encouraged nationals to stay in regular contact with Pakistani diplomatic offices as the situation developed.
