BEIJING: Pakistan’s exports of men’s and women’s apparel to China have experienced a notable increase of approximately five percent, reaching over $18.03 million in the first seven months of 2024, according to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC).

Ghulam Qadir, the Commercial Counsellor at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing, attributed the rise in exports to the high quality and competitive pricing of Pakistani apparel. He emphasized Pakistan’s strategic advantage in land trade with China, further enhanced by the zero-tariff benefits under the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA). For the period from January to July 2024, Pakistan exported $13.10 million worth of men’s clothing and $4.93 million worth of women’s apparel to China.

These figures represent an increase compared to the same period last year, where exports of men’s clothing were $12.65 million and women’s apparel totaled $4.66 million. In terms of annual figures, men’s apparel exports to China amounted to $28.66 million in 2023, $28.65 million in 2022, and $21.62 million in 2021, reflecting a 6 percent growth in 2024. Additionally, women’s trousers, classified under community code 62046200, contributed around $3 million to the total export value in the first seven months of 2024.

Looking ahead, Qadir announced that a significant Pakistani textile delegation is set to participate in the China International Import Expo (CIIE 2024), which will feature a fashion show showcasing Pakistani models. Furthermore, a large delegation from China is expected to attend the “Texpo,” a major textile and leather exhibition organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in Karachi this October. These exhibitions offer a valuable opportunity for buyers to engage directly with high-quality bilateral products and strengthen trade relations between Pakistan and China.
