PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a second weather alert, warning of a Western weather system set to affect most districts of the province from Sunday, 25 January, to Tuesday, 27 January, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD forecast predicts heavy rainfall, strong winds, and snowfall in upper districts, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Galiyat, Malakand, Bannu, and Bajaur. Meanwhile, other districts such as Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram, Khyber, and Waziristan are expected to experience general rain, thunderstorms, and heavy downpours.
The PDMA has cautioned that these severe weather conditions may lead to road closures, landslides, snow avalanches in hilly regions, and reduced visibility due to fog in the plains, potentially disrupting normal life. A significant drop in daytime temperatures is also anticipated.
Deputy Commissioners and relevant departments have been instructed to implement precautionary and emergency measures. Citizens facing emergencies are advised to contact the PDMA Operations Center via the 24/7 toll-free helpline at 1700.
