LAHORE: A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the recent increase in petroleum prices, claiming the government’s decision is unlawful and harmful to the public.
The petition was submitted by Azhar Siddique of the Judicial Activism Panel, arguing that the government’s move to raise petrol prices by Rs55 per litre is an “illegal and anti-people measure” that will significantly affect essential sectors across the country.

According to the plea, the price hike will increase costs for transportation, electricity generation, agriculture, and food items, ultimately placing additional financial burden on ordinary citizens.
The petition further contends that the government raised petroleum prices despite reports that oil companies currently hold reserves sufficient for at least 15 days. It has requested the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the Ministry of Energy Pakistan to present details of petroleum stocks before the court.
The petitioner has urged the court to declare the government’s notification regarding the recent petroleum price increase null and void and to review the legality of the decision in light of its potential impact on the public.
