KARACHI: In a powerful display of solidarity and determination, scores of fishermen converged at DC Chowk in Badin to protest against ongoing injustices inflicted upon their communities. The demonstration, organized by the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF), served as a platform for the fishermen to voice their grievances and demand an end to the mistreatment they have faced from authorities.
During the sit-in, PFF Chairman Mehran Ali Shah delivered a passionate message, asserting the rights of local fishermen over their ancestral waters. “Enough is enough. We are native people. We own the fresh and salt waters. We will fight for our rights and die for them,” he declared, encapsulating the fierce resolve of those present. The sentiment was echoed by many, who expressed their frustration over the perceived neglect and oppression by the provincial government.
The protest was primarily aimed at drawing attention to the illegal occupation of Kakaho Lake in the Sanghar district and other vital water bodies by feudal lords in the coastal region. PFF leaders accused the provincial government of attempting to silence their voices and stifle their rightful claims to the resources that have sustained their communities for generations.
