PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) granted transit bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Omar Ayub, Asad Qaiser, Faisal Amin, and Zartaj Gul on Wednesday. The bail, which extends until October 10, was granted in connection with legal cases arising from the party’s Islamabad rally held on September 8. Justice Shakeel Ahmed, presiding over the case, approved the petitions filed by the PTI leaders, who sought protection from arrest following legal actions initiated by the Islamabad administration. The administration had filed cases against the PTI leaders for allegedly exceeding the approved rally time by two hours.
In their petitions, Ayub and Qaiser expressed their intention to cooperate with the court but voiced concerns about potential detention. They requested judicial intervention to prevent any arrest. Speaking to the media, Omar Ayub criticized the recent actions of masked individuals entering Parliament to detain lawmakers, describing such actions as detrimental to democratic norms. He emphasized that these actions undermine democracy, highlighting the significant role of Ali Amin Gandapur, a key PTI leader representing 40 million people.
This legal development occurs amidst a broader crackdown by Islamabad police on PTI leaders, including the arrest of Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan for allegedly violating newly implemented public gathering regulations.
