KARACHI: In Karachi’s New Golimar area, a plainclothes police officer shot and killed two armed robbers who attempted to rob him. The incident involved Police Officer Baber, who, during the robbery attempt, opened fire on the assailants. Both robbers were killed on the spot, but Officer Baber sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. In a related crackdown on crime, law enforcement has arrested six suspects in various encounters across Karachi, including four who were injured.
Notably, in a police encounter near Liaquatabad and Nadi Kinara, two robbers identified as Asfahan and Ins were apprehended in injured condition, along with weapons and a motorcycle. Further reports indicate that one robber in the fast lane near a public center on Shahrah-e-Faisal threatened a citizen with a weapon and stole their mobile phone. Earlier in the week, police intervened to rescue two suspects from an angry mob after they were caught attempting to rob citizens at gunpoint in a North Karachi neighborhood. During the chaos, the mob overpowered the robbers, leading to a brutal beating of the captured criminals.
One suspect managed to escape, while the others, identified as Asif and Zeeshan, were subjected to severe violence from the mob, reflecting widespread frustration over rising crime rates. A mobile squad from the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station arrived in time to save the robbers from the mob’s fury and transported them to the police station. According to Saqib Khan, the station house officer (SHO) of Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, police recovered a loaded pistol, three stolen mobile phones, and a motorcycle from the arrested robbers.
