RAWALPINDI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to combatting terrorism and promoting national cohesion during his address at the Defence and Martyrs Day ceremony, held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Friday. The event, a solemn tribute to the nation’s martyrs, saw the Prime Minister emphasizing the government’s resolute stance on eliminating terrorism from Pakistan, highlighting the ongoing operations designed to uproot extremist elements from the country.

In his address, the Prime Minister said, “We are fully committed to eradicating terrorism in all its forms,” he said, stressing that the country’s security forces and agencies would not waver in their mission until the complete elimination of “Fitna al-Khawarij.” He expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by the armed forces and other security agencies, who have laid down their lives in defense of the nation, stating that their heroism and dedication would forever be honored.

The Prime Minister paid heartfelt homage to the martyrs, emphasizing the invaluable contribution they made to Pakistan’s freedom, sovereignty, and security. “These brave souls, who gave their blood for the protection and freedom of Pakistan, will always be remembered with the highest regard,” he declared, adding that no tribute could fully encompass the depth of gratitude the nation feels for their ultimate sacrifice.

Sharif noted that the safety and peace enjoyed by the citizens of Pakistan today were a direct result of the selfless bravery exhibited by the fallen heroes, reiterating that their legacy would serve as a beacon of inspiration for future generations. The ceremony, an annual occasion to honor those who have sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation, also served as a reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by terrorism.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks underscored the importance of unity and resilience in the face of such threats, as he called upon the nation to remain steadfast in their support for the armed forces and the broader efforts to restore lasting peace and security. Reflecting on Defence Day, the prime minister noted that it serves as a potent symbol of Pakistan’s national identity and pride.
