WASHINGTON: In a display of cordiality and strategic engagement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a series of warm, informal interactions with world leaders at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington.
Among the notable encounters was a personal meeting with US President Donald Trump, where the two exchanged handshakes, smiles, and an embrace, underscoring a spirit of mutual goodwill and cooperation. Beyond Washington’s formalities, PM Shehbaz engaged in substantive conversations with the King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.
The discussions, described as candid and cordial, spanned pressing global and regional challenges, reflecting a shared commitment to dialogue and cooperation. Pakistan’s presence at the Board of Peace, an assembly of influential global actors focused on conflict resolution and reconstruction, marks a significant diplomatic milestone.
Officials suggest that the country’s active contributions to peace efforts in Gaza, its engagement in regional reconstruction initiatives, and its broader role in multilateral diplomacy were key factors in securing this platform. Analysts note that this visibility signals Pakistan’s intention to play a more assertive role in shaping discussions on global peace and security, leveraging both goodwill and strategic partnerships cultivated over recent years.
In the backdrop of geopolitical tensions and ongoing reconstruction efforts worldwide, Pakistan’s proactive diplomacy may increasingly serve as a bridge between diverse regional interests and global peace initiatives.
