KARACHI: Today, Karachi is expected to experience light rain and drizzle, with cloudy and humid conditions throughout the day, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). While residents have been hoping for heavier rainfall to alleviate the heat, recent light showers have only provided temporary relief.
Historically, Karachi’s weather patterns have varied greatly. The city typically experiences its monsoon season from July to September, with July often bringing some of the heaviest rains. However, in recent years, the intensity and frequency of monsoon rains have fluctuated due to changing climate patterns. Last year, Karachi saw several significant rainfall events that led to flooding and disruptions, highlighting the city’s vulnerability to intense weather conditions.
Currently, the minimum temperature in Karachi stands at 29.5°C, with humidity levels at a high 82%. Winds are blowing at approximately 12 kilometers per hour. These conditions reflect the city’s usual summer climate, which is characterized by high humidity and relatively mild temperatures. Weather expert Jawad Memon has projected a potential monsoon rain spell for Karachi starting July 22. He mentioned that a developing weather system in the Bay of Bengal could impact Sindh between July 24 and 28.
If this system affects the coastal state of Gujarat in India, Karachi might also experience increased rainfall. Historically, such weather systems have often brought significant rains to the region, though their impact can vary. Overall, while Karachi’s current weather provides some temporary relief, the city continues to watch for potential changes as the monsoon season progresses.
