LAHORE: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council took strict notice of a reported incident at Lady Willingdon Hospital, where a video was allegedly recorded inside an operation theatre.
According to initial reports, a video purportedly filmed during a surgical procedure went viral on social media, showing medical staff displaying unprofessional behaviour and conducting the procedure in an inappropriate manner.
The incident raised serious concerns regarding patient dignity, privacy and adherence to medical ethics. The PMDC issued formal notices to the hospital administration and the doctors allegedly involved in recording and sharing the video.
The council directed all concerned individuals to submit detailed explanations outlining their role and the circumstances surrounding the incident. It stated that recording videos in sensitive medical environments, particularly operation theatres, without patient consent constituted a serious breach of professional ethics and violated patient rights and confidentiality.
PMDC President Professor Dr Rizwan Taj said such actions were unacceptable and would be dealt with strictly under the relevant regulatory framework.
The council sought complete details, including the identification of those involved in recording and sharing the video, the consent procedure, if any, and disciplinary measures taken by the hospital administration.
It added that responses would be reviewed before appropriate regulatory action was taken, which could include disciplinary proceedings against the doctors.
The PMDC reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards ethical violations, particularly those affecting patient privacy and dignity, and said strict action would be taken against those found responsible. It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting patient rights, upholding medical ethics and maintaining public trust in the healthcare system.
