PM Shehbaz pointed out that the economic devastation, exacerbated by the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, has left the nation grappling with inflation and exorbitant utility costs

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has taken a proactive step to address the mounting public frustration over escalating electricity bills, presiding over an important consultative meeting aimed at formulating strategies to provide relief. The meeting, held at the PML-N Secretariat in Model Town, Lahore, brought together key party leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to deliberate on the pressing economic challenges facing the nation.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presented a detailed briefing on the national economic agenda he has meticulously prepared to steer the country out of its current financial crisis. He emphasized that the agenda is designed to tackle inflation, stabilize the economy, and, most critically, provide much-needed relief to the public, particularly in the face of skyrocketing electricity bills. Addressing the attendees, Nawaz Sharif expressed deep concern over the burden of heavy electricity bills on the public, describing them as “unbearable” and “unaffordable.”
PM Shehbaz pointed out that the economic devastation, exacerbated by the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, has left the nation grappling with inflation and exorbitant utility costs. However, he reassured the people that the PML-N remains committed to finding ways to offer relief, even in these challenging times. “The destruction wrought by PTI has brought inflation and expensive bills, but the people expect relief from us,” Nawaz Sharif asserted. “It is a test of our abilities to provide relief to the people, even in the most difficult situations.”
Nawaz Sharif also praised the party’s leadership for their political sacrifices, which he credited with saving the country from the brink of economic default. He highlighted the party’s unwavering dedication to restoring economic stability, framing it as a testament to their patriotism and commitment to the nation. “Saving the country from default and making political sacrifices to bring back economic stability is proof of your patriotism,” he said, addressing the party members. “However, saving the country from default remains our biggest test.”
In his briefing, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif outlined the key features of the economic agenda, which includes a three-month relief package for electricity consumers using up to 200 units, covering both protected and non-protected categories. This relief, he explained, is part of a broader strategy to alleviate the financial burden on the public.
