KARACHI: Karachi police’s AVL Cell (Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell) have arrested a dangerous organized gang accused of snatching vehicles across various city districts. Four stolen cars and weapons were recovered during the operation, officials said.
The suspects, identified as Muneer, son of Muqadar Khan; Danish Ali, also known as Mir, son of Muhammad Ars; and Moazam Balti, son of Azam, had been carrying out thefts in Karachi East and South for several months. Investigators said the gang rented vehicles before seizing them from citizens. Police had obtained CCTV footage of multiple incidents prior to the arrests.
Authorities said the AVL Cell tracked the suspects using Safe City cameras, mobile data, and intelligence-based information. After continuous technical surveillance, the gang was apprehended. Officials added that Danish Ali’s father is a sub-inspector in the Karachi Police.
Recovered vehicles included:
- A Toyota Grandy (registration BH-234), reported at Bahadurabad police station (FIR 500/2025)
- A Mira (registration BPR-732), reported at Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station (FIR 606/2025)
- A Suzuki Mehran (registration ABR-371), reported at Haidri Market police station (FIR 71/2025)
- A Suzuki Mehran (registration AHY-507), reported at North Nazimabad police station (FIR 390/2025)
Police said the suspects sold some of the stolen cars in Kuchlak, Balochistan. During interrogation, the arrested individuals admitted to multiple incidents. Operations are ongoing to apprehend remaining gang members and recover additional stolen vehicles.
SSP AVL Cell, Khalid Mustafa Korai, emphasized that public safety remains a top priority. He said the use of technology had been key to the operation and expected the arrests to reduce car-snatching incidents in Karachi. Further investigations are continuing.
