KARACHI: Police in Malir Cantonment arrested two men on Friday for their alleged involvement in the illegal sale of alcohol from a hotel, following what officials described as a credible tip-off. The operation, carried out by a local police team, led to the recovery of more than 88 bottles of liquor, which officers said were being sold discreetly under the cover of the hotel’s regular business.
The suspects, identified as Shehbaz Ali and Tausif, were taken into custody at the scene. According to police sources, the two men had been operating the illicit trade for some time, using the hotel premises to conceal the activity and avoid detection. Officers said the pair appeared to have established a small but steady network of buyers, relying on the cover of normal hotel operations to continue their business unnoticed.
Police officials noted that the raid was part of ongoing efforts to curb the sale of illegal liquor in the area, particularly in commercial zones where such activities are often conducted covertly. The seized bottles were taken into evidence, and the premises were examined to determine whether additional individuals or staff members may have been involved.
A case has been registered against both suspects under relevant sections of the law. Investigators said further inquiries were underway to trace the supply chain and identify any other accomplices linked to the operation. Police added that similar crackdowns would continue in the days ahead as part of a broader campaign to restrict illicit trade in the district.
