DADU: A police constable in Dadu attempted to set himself and his children on fire outside the National Bank and the local press club on Thursday, protesting against the bank’s management.
The children cried in distress as the constable, drenched in petrol, accused bank officials of corruption and failing to process his loan application. Mumtaz Ali Chandio, a constable from Kotri, alleged that National Bank agent Anwar Samo and other officials had demanded a bribe of Rs60,000 for the approval of a Rs1 million loan.
Mumtaz claimed that despite paying the sum, the bank had not processed his case, leaving him frustrated after repeated visits and prompting the extreme protest. Bystanders and police personnel intervened quickly, preventing harm to the constable and his children and bringing the situation under control.
The National Bank strongly denied the allegations. In a statement, it said the loan case remained under process and described the claims against staff as “baseless and misleading.” Police launched an inquiry into the incident, which has caused widespread concern among local residents.
