KARACHI: Police in Malir district seized a vehicle loaded with stolen copper and iron during a crackdown in the Steel Mills area, officials said on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, the Bin Qasim police carried out a targeted operation against the movement of stolen scrap. Suspects fled the scene on seeing the police, abandoning the vehicle, which was taken into custody.

During the search, officers recovered about 400kg of stolen copper from the vehicle. The material was shifted to legal custody and an investigation was launched.

Police said the suspects were involved in selling stolen scrap at different locations. Raids were under way in various areas to arrest those responsible, a spokesperson for Malir police added.
