CHITKAN BAZAAR, PANJGUR: In a tragic incident late Sunday night, Sub-Inspector Shakeel Ahmed was fatally shot during an assault on his patrol unit by gunmen in Chitkan Bazaar, Panjgur. The sub-inspector sustained severe injuries in the attack and succumbed to his wounds shortly after.
The assault occurred while Ahmed’s unit was conducting a routine patrol. The attackers managed to flee the scene before additional police reinforcements arrived. Ahmed’s body has been transported to a nearby hospital, where forensic teams are currently gathering evidence from the crime site. An investigation into the attack is underway. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Panjgur, located in Balochistan province, has faced sporadic violence in recent years, often targeting security personnel.
This attack follows a series of coordinated terrorist assaults in Balochistan on August 26, which resulted in over 50 deaths, including several security officials. The outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for those attacks, which affected 10 districts. The recent attack on Sub-Inspector Ahmed adds to the ongoing security challenges in the province, marking one of the deadliest incidents in recent years. In response, the federal government, along with relevant stakeholders, has reviewed the security situation. A decision has been made to grant special powers to law enforcement agencies, including the army.
