KARACHI: Karachi police intensified efforts to maintain law and order across the city this week, combining proactive crime-fighting measures with heightened security for the Christian community and national celebrations.

In the Defence area, officers foiled a street robbery, apprehending one suspect and recovering a firearm and a stolen motorcycle, while two accomplices managed to escape. The arrested man, identified as Baqar, was taken into custody as investigations continued, with police conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects.

In a parallel operation in District Central, authorities traced and recovered a truck laden with cooking oil within 20 hours of it being hijacked at gunpoint. One man, Abid Hussain Abbasi, was arrested in connection with the armed robbery, and police vowed to continue pursuing the other perpetrators. Both incidents underscored the city’s ongoing struggle with organized street crime and the steps being taken to protect public safety.

Meanwhile, ahead of Christmas, the Additional Inspector General of Police, Javed Alam Odho, toured major churches including St Patrick’s Church, Central Brookes Memorial Church, and Holy Trinity Cathedral to review security arrangements. Accompanied by senior officers, Odho held detailed consultations with church administrators and local Christian leaders, reassuring the community that comprehensive measures were in place to safeguard worshippers during the festive period.

Similar measures were extended across Karachi’s West Zone in preparation for Quaid-e-Azam Day celebrations, with authorities directing strict monitoring of rallies, religious gatherings, schools, and sensitive installations. Police deployed additional personnel, implemented access controls, and intensified surveillance to ensure the safety of citizens while maintaining public order.

Through these coordinated efforts, Karachi police sought to combine law enforcement against crime with proactive protection for communities observing religious and national festivities, signaling a determination to uphold both security and harmony across the city.
